A nation wide abortion ban

Many people who voted in this most recent election are forgetting or simply undermining the biggest issue we have here in America: Abortion bans. But how does this affect people? Some think that it won’t affect them because of 3 exceptions rule. That covers all the main reasons a couple might want to have an abortion, right? In this post I’ll be going over a few states stance on abortion and also the project 2025 agenda for abortion.

The states of Florida, Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina currently have what’s called a six week ban. This means a woman can have an abortion for up to 6 weeks. But here’s the catch. The 6 weeks starts at the end of the woman’s last period. That’s before a woman can officially know she’s pregnant. Around 80% of women don’t actually know they’re pregnant until about 6-12 weeks, which is far past the ban. Another thing pro-life extremists like to say is, after 6 weeks there is a heart beat. Technically no. There isn’t a heart beat because they don’t have a heart but in ultrasounds around 6-weeks you can hear electric impulses from cardiac cells. Having a 6 week abortion ban really means women have 2-3 weeks a find out they’re pregnant, that’s if they’re diligent and know when exactly they’re supposed to have a period, and about 2 more weeks for a pregnancy to show up on a home pregnancy test. So in reality a 6 week abortion ban is actually a 2-3 week abortion ban.

Now we can move on to the 3 exceptions. The exception are; Rape, incest, and if the life or health of the mother is put at risk. I’ll break them down and talk about them separately. First:Rape exception. You’ve read that most women don’t know they’re pregnant until 2-3 weeks after their last period. A rape kit used by police in forensic investigations to determine if a victim was raped. Rape kits have to be used around 72-hours after this event took place. Many people think that’s plenty enough time. However there are more factors you have to look into. What if a woman is raped as a child and doesn’t know how or is afraid to say something? Then it passes the 72-hour rape kit deadline so the exception of rape wouldn’t work on them. That can also be said for incest pregnancies. It can (most times) be safe to assume that said incest was not consensual and should be treated as rape. The last exception is if the mother is at risk. While this doesn’t immediately raise any problems it’s when the mother goes to get an abortion because doctors are punished via jail time if the mother’s life isn’t actually at risk. How much does a woman need to suffer before that exception is applied? Each state has a different definition for what is a health risk for the mother. In Kentucky where there is a 6-week ban, the laws is an abortion is allowed if there is a serious risk that can cause death or irreversible damage to the mother or her life sustaining organs. However in Indiana it’s a lot more vague. Their abortion ban is “to prevent any serious health risk.” What exactly is a “serious health risk”? The law being so vague causes doctors to reject the medical evidence in order to save their careers.

The last thing I want to talk about is the project 2025 abortion plan. Without going into detail about who specifically signed project 2025, it was majority Republican Party members and although Mr.Trump has never officially signed it, his name is mentioned roughly 300 times in the 920-page mandate. Project 2025 was written by the former trump administration officials. Project 2025 allows the federal government to prosecute people who ship abortion pills, such as the morning after pill and plan b. It allows hospitals to turn away women and deny abortions to women who would have life threatening complications if they were to carry to term. Which eliminates one of the 3 exceptions- if the mother is at risk. Project 2025 plans to get the FDA to reverse the approval of drugs used in abortion procedures such as Mifepristone and Misoprostol. Misoprostol specifically isn’t just used for abortion care. Its label says that it can cause miscarriages and that it should not be taken by pregnant women because it’s also used to prevent stomach ulcers. Project 2025 is a radical agenda that plans to completely dismantle healthcare for women all over America.

What does this mean? Without getting too political, When Mr.Trump is president in 2025 these plans will go into action. This means that a woman who is under the age of 16 is forced to carry a pregnancy to term even if she faces life threatening complications. This means that any woman no longer has access to birth control or contraceptive options. This means that a woman who was raped at the age of 12 has to live with a forced pregnancy for 40 weeks at the most. This means that no woman will have access to the healthcare and respect that they deserve.
